Historically it's been considered a normal practice to hit your wife, girlfriend, daughter etc. Since the suffragette movement however, it's changed significantly. I think they thought that if I woman hit a man that she'd be weak and it'd be okay. Since then i'd say we've evolved and we're taught that it's not okay to hit anybody. Unless in obvious circumstances like self defence or boxing
