The afternoon was calm, the clouds overhead dark, but quiet. I rest lazily on the sofa, my finger repeatedly clicking the remote to find a decent channel. The two children fast asleep in my lap murmured soft words in their dreamworld. I could hear the faint creaking noises of my older brother rummaging through the pantry, hoping for something sweet. The rest of the household were already in their rooms, in bed.

It was .. normal. But something felt .. wrong.

The aimless channel changing came to a stop on the news.

"Citizens are becoming aggressive, livid. Scientists are looking into-"

The reporter was cut off mid sentence. A man leaped onto her, throwing her to the ground. It was out of frame. But you could hear.

Screaming. Growling. Gurgling. Flesh squelching.

I stare in horror as the TV cuts out.
