but in all honesty, I hear people say being disabled isn't good or bad, it's neutral and it annoys me greatly, no, disabled people aren't bad or annoying, but being disabled in of itself can suck.

did people forget what disabled means? I think a good thing to remember is that different disabilitys affect people differently and it's not always "socity's oppression and ablesum is why living with a disability sucks" I live with seizures right? unfortunatly i'm unmedicated right now since my body doesn't like the meds for it .

society could be nicer and doctors could actually try to figure out the root cause of my issues but that won't make it 1005 % better. it won't stop it completely and I find seizures to suck, i'm lucky enough for mine to be more of a painful inconvenience in my life and I have support and accessability tools but it's still unplesent.

my fellow autistics can likely relate to autism being unpleasant but it's not always someone's fault, like you might find the sun overwhelming even with sunglasses but no, that's not an issue directly caused by someone being a bigot, it's literally nature, like birds being loud.

and things like mental illness can be disabling, I have MMD (major depressive disorder) and that shit can be hard man. I think a lot of people on here- if not everyone, lives with mental illness and it's hard, looking at someone who struggles to leave their bed every day and telling them that their demons aren't bad, they are just netural can feel insulting and patronizing as hell even if that wasn't their intention.

and then there's another irritating side to this, let's call it

autism is my super power!

those people who will say that [insert disability] is a super power or an atvantage somehow, completely missing the point of what the word "disabled" means.

it's usually people tryna be nice, like telling a depressed person that their depression makes them more "smart".

or telling someone they look too good to be disabled, like if they see someone with autism dressed up and not in "autistic" clothes (comfy hoodies, pajamas, oversized tees, sweat pants, ect)

like, why is it that if I, as someone who is handicapped says that being disabled is unpleasant, and it sucks I ether get some random person telling me "uh, no, you're a bigoted abelist. disability isn't bad OR good, it's a neutral thing you privileged swine" or some random southern mother of three telling me I have a super power or I don't seem disabled since I present myself very well or I seem too "smart" to have autism? why am I not allowed to say that having a disability is not a good thing and it can suck? why does that make me a biggoted monster for having that opinion?

I think this is something @<bdi>xenth</bdi> could relate to, tbh

I just CAN'T do school work sometimes cause I just wanna walk and jump and just move. I do shit I shouldn't cause it genuinely AFFECTS ME. People who want any disabilites don't know how hard we struggle. I also have anxiety, I stress over anything like "Shit did I leave my coat??" and I have it in my bag or "Oh god they're gonna think I'm a weirdo." and I said the most normal stuff ever. Sorry I went on a tad of a tanget-

I have chronic pain, a long with a long, long list of mental illnesses.

I understand being accepting and accommodating to people who are disabled and disability pride. but personally, I HATE being called "specially abled". like NO. when my legs go numb due to my spine pinching the nerves I am not prideful as I sit in a wheelchair waiting days until my spine fixes itself. NO I do not feel 'special' when I have an autistic meltdown and involuntarily age regress just because the lights were humming too loud. I do NOT feel the same as everyone else. I deserve the same rights and accomodations, but I am not an enigma. I am not strong or quirky or silly I am disabled and I hate it. I would give anything to be able to live life without worrying if my legs will stop working one day or dissassociating mid conversation because i'm having a PTSD flashback.

I'm disabled. I accept that fact and I believe that we should be treated with the same respect as abled people. don't infantalize me. don't ask if I need help every second. just treat me like you would anyone else, please.

IED + Autism + depression + anxiety i struggle to even switch classes and i sweat around even 5 people ts is not a "superpower" i feel like having a panic attack near a heart stopping level- (checked once at 130bpm) (abnormal is a bit higher) is not a "superpower" and people look at the "good" side and they dont look at the bad- they sit there and say "your not disabled, your able to"

and i sit there and think "you are one dumb idiot to think that im "able" " when they dont know SH- about how we feel..
