internet rules 101, DON'T TOUCH POO!despite me posting this to this forum, this is incredibly true for other platforms more than this one.
let's say you see someone repeatedly posts terrible things, or you stroungly dislike the person for something, like maybe they spam homophobic shit or they cyberbully others and other people would agree that you do have a very valid reason to dislike them.what does this have to do with "touching the poo"?
I hear you say, well I will explain.
let's say this person is quite literally shit, would you want to touch them? probably not.
you can always unfollow, block, or downvote/dislike the person's content, that's 10000% fine and none is gonna fault you for that. you can't get in trouble for that, and it's the most mature thing to do in most situations.
but don't do stuff like arguing, fighting, doxing, harassing, ect. said person, most of the time these people are trying to piss you off so that you will argue with them because they are despirate for attention.
basically, don't stoop down to their level or feed into the rage bait, that is touching the poo!
not feeding into their rage bait and starving them for attention is usually the best call, and if the platform has moderation or well, any decent moderation, you could flag/report them instead of fighting in the comments section. if the platform's moderation is ether non-existant or just horrendous (like discord's for example) just literally ignore them.
in most cases, ignoring ragebait usually upsets them and has a bigger impact than arguing does. they will likely get annoyed and shut up, stopping whatever you were worried about to begin with.
if online drama is getting to you, or the attacks felt hella personal and insulting, honestly, just touch grass and go offline for a while before coming back to the internet.
people's words can hurt, but the people saying them are likely more pathetic than you think, they are so despirate for attention they are willing to hurt others to fill the void.
if thinking about how pathetic they must be helps then do it, none is inside your head but you and as long as you keep it to yourself it really doesn't matter what you think of them.
obviously, not everyone is doing shit for attention, but in most cases, once they stop getting the attention they shut up and sometimes people can go too far, (I.e. making literal threats of violence against a school) at that point, contacting police or reporting them to moderation (if there is any) is usually appropriate, in that context, getting involved isn't touching the poo and is acceptable.
but in most situations, simply ignoring someone is enough!
DO NOT TOUCH THE POO, and take care. block buttons are really useful and don't be afraid to use them!
