I'd like to add proper server-side drafts, but there's not a good way to do it right now.

I've now enabled "Post later" on the General category which might help, according to this post: https://community.nodebb.org/topic/16977/long-running-drafts-and-scheduled-topics

"Post later" can be used this to schedule a post for the far future, (no one but moderation can see it), then continue editing until it's ready to be posted for real

@Raven This time, that's part of the experiment, I'm curious to see if the situation has changed at all in that area. There's a new "optimize for mobile" feature that might help Switch users.

Do you know the filetype and filesize of the image you're uploading? Maybe compressing it first is a good idea using an external app. Either way though, the browser shouldn't be crashing, that kind of sounds like a bug between the specific Files<->Browser apps.

For those on Switch, is it that bad? Is that on Switch 1 (OLED, Lite, or original) or Switch 2? And which DNS are you using? (certain ones might have some built-in ad-blocking)

Popping up during conversations is a definite problem. I'm also not a huge fan of ads, so I'm always going to err on the side of making them be optional. The @Hide-BDNS-Ads group works well because you still have to seek it out, but also, signed-out users eg. people arriving via Google search can't join them.

If the ads are weird, how weird are we talking? Below is an example of the kinds of ads I'm seeing. Although it's a LOT of ad real estate, I also kind of feel like that's just how the Internet is these days?

Google has their own internal algorithms where they decide where to put the ads, but you can mark certain areas as "off limits" zones. That first page load though is some of the more valuable real-estate (which is also why so many news sites look so terrible). It's a trade-off for user annoyance VS ad performance, really.

Sorry, the drafts get stored locally and then get wiped when the browser reloads. The closest you can do is post and edit the thread.

Google AdSense ads have been added back to the site. This is an experiment to see how well they perform, but also whether or not they're too intrusive.

If you'd like to opt-out, you can join the @Hide-BDNS-Ads group and refresh the page to hide them. There's no penalty for joining that group! In the future, it may be placed behind rep requirements.

Although, I do want to receive feedback on how annoying they are as well-- This thread can be used to report whether they work on various devices, do they break things on the site, are there too many, etc.

You can check your serial number to see if your Switch is a model that's easy to mod: https://switch.hacks.guide/user_guide/getting_started

If you got it in 2017 on release, it very likely is! That guide also details the process, and the NH Discord can be used for any questions that may come up: https://discord.com/invite/C29hYvh

  • hold up, i think i figured out how to fix ''this feature is unavailable''
    VGMooseundefined VGMoose

I got the "Feature is not available" screen with the DNS yesterday on my Switch 2, and can confirm that starting to watch a video (w/o the DNS) in the News applet removed it!

Switch 2 has no Facebook applet, so I didn't get to try that yet. Either way, this isn't common knowledge, so we'll update the landing page to display some info about this workaround. It's often mentioned as an issue on the feedback form.

Thanks @Yanderemenhera and @_Izzy_! And to @KiwiFarmsArkavel / others reading this thread, let me know if these workarounds work for you as well next time the error comes up.

    So it sounds like:

    1. Set DNS to automatic, or to Google DNS (8.8.8.8)
    2. Watch a video in the News app, or open Facebook via the Album share applet
    3. Set the DNS back to one of the BrowseDNS addresses

I haven't had the issue in a while, any ideas on what causes the problem in the first place? Eg. not being docked or being offline for too long?

Edited the first post to better describe the YouTube method:

If you set up the DNS and then launch the YouTube app instead of doing a Connection Test, it will automatically re-display the browser after timeout happens

    Before it used to say:

If you launch the YouTube app, and access the DNS that way, it will automatically re-display the browser after timeout happens

    Which didn't really make sense

This thread is from back when Genesect was reporting news via RSS integrations. For the latest on the subject, this Wikipedia article on 2020 election disputes and outcomes goes into much more detail: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Attempts_to_overturn_the_2020_United_States_presidential_election

There are some pretty obvious bad actions in there. No matter where you land politically, we need to be able to trust our elections and peacefully transfer power. These election interference charges were dropped after the 2024 election, as the plurality of US citizens re-elected President Trump.

From an NPR article on from November 11, 2024, on dismissing the charges:

Monday's filing is in line with longstanding Justice Department policy that says a sitting president cannot be indicted or tried on criminal charges because it would violate the Constitution and interfere with the working of the executive branch.

A sitting President can only be held liable if they are impeached and removed from office first, which involves a simple majority (>50%) in the house (218 votes out of 435) and 2/3 of the senate (67 votes out of 100). This is unlikely to happen, even with a large voter turnout.

These kinds of election questions are ones that will be relevant again soon, with the midterms coming up. If you're a US citizen and are going to be 18 or older by November 3, 2026, learn how to register to vote here: https://vote.gov/guide-to-voting/preparing-age-18-and-under

Big if true! That sounds very promising, and I'll recommend it to others / try it if it happens to me. If it continues to work, we can add a notice to the BDNS landing page as well.

Have you tried setting your DNS to 8.8.8.8 for a bit? This is Google DNS and should connect normally, which might help the Switch needs to talk to some endpoint to see if it should enable browser lockout. Sorry though, I know some users are having this issue randomly and I don't think it's on our end.

Repair.wiki has some info on Switch BSOD: https://repair.wiki/w/Nintendo_Switch_Blue_screen_of_death_Repair

    iFixIt link too: https://www.ifixit.com/Troubleshooting/Nintendo_Switch/Blue+Screen+of+Death/481689

But it seems like a tricky hardware repair. The Switch has a few other diagnostic codes, like full screen yellow, green, or red, and blue usually means physical CPU or memory error.

  • As someone who's PR department, how might we improve and keep users from leaving?
    VGMooseundefined VGMoose

We do have an apps in the works! Actually push notifications is the difficult part, but we should be able to get there eventually. It's important to make the site easier to use for mobile users.

On the users that have left though, I generally agree with Raven's take that it's natural / their decision to make. People will come and go over time. Obviously, we don't want to make this feel like an isolating place either.
