World War II reshaped the global landscape, leaving deep scars on society, especially on children. The conflict also spurred advancements in science and technology, including the use of chemical weapons the war uprooted approximately 60 million Europeans from 27 countries and 55 ethnic groups. Children were among the most vulnerable, facing displacement, family separation, and loss. The war's devastation extended to major industrial regions, except for North America, leading to widespread famine and disease World War I saw the introduction of chemical weapons, including choking agents like chlorine, phosgene, and diphosgene. These agents caused casualties through inhalation, leading to fluid buildup in the lungs and, potentially, asphyxiation. Blister agents, such as sulfur mustard (mustard gas), were also deployed, causing burns to the skin, eyes, windpipe, and lungs war led to significant societal shifts, including the decline of European powers and the rise of superpowers. Rapid advancements in technology and management techniques spurred industrial growth and increased labor productivity. Education expanded to include more of the population, and women gained access to opportunities previously dominated by men. The war also accelerated social leveling, with mass media contributing to a shared culture.
