How do u go to people's islands? I'm still sorta new to this game.

You need Nintendo Switch Online to visit other peoples islands so if you don't have that it won't work unless its local play BUT if you do have it, you go to the airport on your island, talk to the bird guy in the airport (i 4get his name I havent played in ages) and I think he'll give you the option to visit another player's island
