        it depends on who u ask.. if you mean by sales figures.. then poor marketing was the reason.
        otherwise its a great little console..

          sales figures were extremely below expectations, marketing was shit, (why buy a wii u when you have competitors trumping it in every aspect), unforeseen issues with the hardware, just a lot of stuff went into it

            wii sports baseball on that thing was defo a core memory for me so nintendo had my money there

                I'd say the name was pretty bad, it sounds like an extension of the original Wii and nothing more. It also had a pretty poor library throughout its whole life, comparable to even the 3DS's library at launch (it grew way more later on). I'd argue it just didn't have enough care put into it!
