@Kam it was first made as an alternative to twitter from what I remember unless there policies changed it runs on AT Protocol which is to give users control over their data and algorithms etc. The full name would be Authenticated Transfer Protocol different providers speak to each other kinds like a email but for social media on blue sky (at least from what it says) u own you day and if you don't like it you can move everything to a different provider there's hundreds of user made algorithms and your date isn't locked in a central database you can choose your own provider or use one u trust or just the one on Blue Sky no single company has total control over the network because of those reasons Instagram and many other popular social media so work on a primarily centralized server
