Is there a screen protector on it? That could be interfering with the taps if so.

iTunes actually sounds like a pretty good fix. Connecting a USB keyboard to the tablet might be an option too, depending on whether or not you have the right adapters to connect it, and then using that keyboard to enter the code instead.

    Website: https://library.gamehistory.org

The Video Game History Foundation has officially thrown the virtual doors open to its massive digital library. Designed to be a free-to-access resource for researchers, historians, and video game fans, the VGHF Digital Library currently offers more than 30,000 curated files spanning 50 years of video game history. Demand is already pretty high, so at the time of writing, you might struggle to access the library.

The non-profit group says that visitors will find out-of-print video game magazines, never-before-seen game development assets, artwork, promotional materials, and more gaming relics here, with more than 1,500 of them being full-text searchable.

"We've been working on this project since we founded the Video Game History Foundation in 2017, so we're extremely proud to start providing access to our digital library and continue our mission to make video game history accessible to anyone," VGHF founder Frank Cifaldi said in a statement. "We believe that with the right tools, anyone can be a video game historian, and we can't wait to see what new stories our archive inspires. We also hope this inspires those in the video game industry to consider the importance of preserving their work and contributing to initiatives like ours."

  • How DNS Works
    VGMooseundefined VGMoose

Just came across this website https://howdns.works/ that explains what a DNS server does with helpful illustrations!

When a device goes to connect to a specific website domain, it first asks the DNS server for the IP in order to make the connection. Through this manner, browseDNS is able to redirect, on some devices, an initial network connection in order to bring up a captive portal browser.

Yes! There's a tab switcher with animations, and each tab preserves back/forward history. This was an early design goal because I've found tab management to always be a pain point for on-console browsers.

Recorded a 1 minute video of how the browser behaves right now:

When a tab is backgrounded, it takes a screenshot of the current page, and then uses that as a thumbnail for the tab switcher view. Then, when you switch back into a tab, that screenshot is replaced with the actual page again.

The clock in the URL bar also becomes a forward button after you go back, re-using that toolbar space.

One has to wonder, with the Switch 2 including a builtin mouse cursor, if they have any plans to invest more in their own browser on the new system.

The petition to them got 28k signatures and is one of the top 10 most-signed on Change.org to Nintendo (actually, it's the 10th), but the browser has still not received any major new updates.

But! They still might take that feedback into account for their new console, and we'll see in a few months. Either way though, in terms of Broccolini and project goals, if the compatibility ever gets good enough, I'd at least try and submit it.

@sflynn2025 It would be free! But, it's not clear if Nintendo for example would allow such a program on the eShop.

Not at all! But maybe one day 😃

For Discord, it would need at least cookies, POST requests, javascript, and websockets. Here's the compatibility status as of right now:

    What Works

    • renders HTML and CSS!
    • inertia scrolling and touch-based navigation
    • async image downloading
    • history and bookmarks
    • tabs and tab image previews
    • private browsing mode
    • restore previous tabs on re-launch
    • full qwerty on-screen keyboard
    • support for a few different font families
    • base64 data uris and SVGs work

    To Do:

    • pinch to zoom! and pan left/right
    • add cursor to be controlled with the joystick
    • fix images drawing on top of everything
    • detailed history and managing bookmarks
    • store and use cookies, local storage, etc
    • handle POSTs and other non-GET requests
      • handle different error codes
    • video and audio embed support
    • simple javascript within pages
    • improve HTML/CSS compatibility
      • form input elements
      • iframes and frames
    • probably many more things

  • Browse.dns switch 2 compatibility?
    VGMooseundefined VGMoose

I'm hopeful that after seeing all the user demand for it on the Switch, that Nintendo will include a "real" browser this time around on the Switch 2. If they don't though, it very likely will at least include a basic browser, since the eShop and other built-in services rely on it.

Be on the lookout for some press releases from ACCESS (the company that makes the switch's browser), they put some out a statement a few years ago before Switch Lite was released: https://www.access-company.com/en/news_event/archives/2019/access-netfront-browser-nx-selected-by-nintendo-for-its-latest-nintendo-switch-lite-game-console/

@graham I would love it for this to work, but it's not supported by Nintendo's browser.

Netflix is also a bit tricky because they have pretty strict DRM requirements and probably usually make a licensing deal with Console manufacturers to get their app on those platforms. Really it's up to Nintendo and Netflix to make that work.

It's not unheard of though since Nintendo has worked with Netflix in the past for the Wii and Wii U. The most we can do to help the Switch browser play videos and have other features is to get more traction on this petition.

The two browseDNS addresses that look like that are!

    • 45.55.142.122

I do have them memorized, but the one in your post is off by one digit!

Also for those curious about how this works, if you remove the /manage portion of the URL, you're hitting the actual same-redirect service (lanechange) that the Switch will hit during the connection test.

So when enabled, that domain will redirect to switchbru/browsedns, but when disabled it returns only "ok" with Nintendo headers (X-Organization: Nintendo, which is what the Switch expects a valid connection test to do)

It's not perfect, but I have now added similar lanechange controller endpoints for the two browseDNS IPs.

That means through the following three pages, you can configure whether or not each DNS redirects or not:

    • Switchbru DNS (45.55.142.122): http://lanechange-controller.fortheusers.org/manage/
    • BrowseDNS US (45.55.112.11): http://lanechange-us.browsedns.net/manage/
    • BrowseDNS UK (46.101.65.164): http://lanechange-uk.browsedns.net/manage/

For convenience, these pages all link to each other. I ultimately still want this to be an easier / less confusing process in the future.

Finally I should note that this redirect info is stored in memory– when the DNS restarts the preferences on these pages are reset. We do rarely restart this component, but that is another area that needs improvement.

Requested by @ForgetMeNot49, the browseDNS IPs do not currently support "disable DNS" like Switchbru DNS does (eg. from http://lanechange-controller.fortheusers.org/manage/ ).
