Polishthe process i use for all my class docs and writing is this, you first think of the topic, then you build on the idea- at the third step you determine if its a good idea and has a good strong foundation, then if if it is you finish by polishing the whole thing.

i do this because i have good ideas and like to write them down asap and then once i have the rough draft i use this. i use the thought, build on it, determine, then i polish it.
