yes if you are just starting out one thing you can do is find your rythem and stick to it.
what i mean is it doesn't matter if you can't play ov sacrement but that you are trying
if you know the string names its easy to learn harder songs
the first song I learned was seven nation army as the cords are all on one string
the frets are as follows 7,7,10,7,5,3,2 for the main rift and the chorus is 0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,2,2,2,2,2,2,2,2 the whole song can be played on the d-string -
I suggest you play some easy melodies, like Mary Had A Little Lamb, which only uses one string, then slowly you can develop some harder songs.

I'm not an expert but I think Hidden in the sand by tally hall is easy Atleast was my first song I learned! Or Riptide by vance joy which is pretty easy definitely know ur strings and hand placement practice makes progress:D!

learn the open chords... initially youll try E ,D , A simples to play then you'll want to try G and C before finishing with F then B barred chords... take it slow and practice transitions from one shape to the next ...
you will find lots of songs to play with easy open chords.. to practice .. you tube is your friend.
