So, Benson Boone is an ex Mormon and in their culture they often do flips to try and attract a mate since all the traditional things that would be considered ''cool'' aren't allowed in their culture like, drinking, swearing etc. Now although Benson isn't Mormon anymore he still does flips as a force of habit, so does quite a few Mormon boys to try and give off that rebellious look.
