    Happy (late) juneteenth yall!

Its come my attention that many ppl in America dont really know about Juneteenth and its often watered down to be 'a day for black people' or 'Black pride' (it may encourage black pride but thats NOT the point, pls dont spread this narrative bc it waters it down and also lowkey makes ppl less excepting!) and even a 'stupid' holiday (which is CRAZY to say when saint patricks day exist and no one complains about irish ppl having their own day...) so i thought id explain it rq 🙂

Juneteenth became a holiday in texas in 1979 but had been being celebrated by Americans in texas way before then, and was made a official federal American holiday in 2021.

while slavery was made illegal in 1863, there were 250,000 Black people in other states who had not been freed, and many ppl moved to texas to keep their slaves

on June 19th of 1865, union military troops went to texas and notified the hundreds of thousands of enslaved people of their freedom.

despite being such a historical day, many people are not aware of its importance and impact, and that it has actually been being celebrated by americans in texas for over a century.

250,000 is alot of people, and 2 years is a long time. Many Black people probably died within those 2 years that they were supposed to be free.

anyways, for those in America who had no school or work this friday, now you know why<3

(this is just a summary and there is alot more to the history of this holiday)

Also after talking in the replies i wana add, Juneteenth is for all Americans, not just Black Americans bc it represents a day where America got closer to being a land of true equality for everyone!

typing on nintendo so pls forgive any typos!^^

Juneteenth commemorates the day when 25,000 slave in the state of Texas, which became the last bastion for slavery during the final days of the civil war, where declared free by the United States army. there is alot of people that celebrate Juneteenth

This is the only reason why I like my birthdate cause it is on Juneteenth. I'm not surprised that not many people know about Juneteenth because its not a big holiday like Christmas, thanksgiving, Easter, etc.

        idk

@ShadowGamerX i think ppl dont know abt it bc only black ppl care and alot of people just wouldnt really get its impact plus its history isnt rlly taught in schools:p

alot a ppl are very detatched when learning abt history and dont get how big of a deal this rlly was for those 250,000 Americans bc they just cant rlly relate

i think its important for all Americans no matter their race to celebrate bc its the day America got closer to truly being the land of the free:)

@_Izzy_ I agree with everything you just said but is America really the land of the free. I mean we have so many laws in place against stuff but also you've gotta work for money and you need money to rent/buy a house and utilities without money your homeless so is it really the land of the free if we all have to work just to live.

            idk

@ShadowGamerX i know thats why i said 'got closer'!

also america just arrested alot of black ppl to make them slaves in jail which is still legal so juneteenth was only one step but a VERY important one!

me personally i wouldnt exist if Juneteenth never happened and my life would probably be alot worse TvT and i likely wouldnt have been able to have friends and conversations with ppl of so many different backgrounds:p

@Rosemary-2026 you were spreading FALSE info though tf TvT
all u had to do was edit after seeing my reply, idgaf where you learned it since i told you it was false and you could have just done a quick fact check to see that instead of chosing to be ignorant

(only calling u ignorant bc instead of taking accountability when politely corrected and simply editing the comment to not be spreading false info, or just ignoring me completely, you chose to stupidly tell me you arent spreading false info when you OBJECTIVELY are, theres nothing wrong with you getting the number wrong at first ofc but refusing to except that you made a mistake is hella entitled and shows that you dont actually care about the topic or its history, and you DEFINITELY dont care about the people it actually effects.)
