weird age gaps in romance anime

its so weird when i see ppl talk abt this because both sides are wrong!
ima use inuyasha and kami-sama kiss as examples
so i saw a post where someone said that tomoe and his gfs relationship is problematic, which i too was worried it was, then they said its bc hes 600 years old....
holy illiteracy-
then ppl started saying it isnt problematic- because its fiction??????? or bc age of consent is lower in japan (btw age of consent being 13 in japan means they can consent to other minors, its still illegal for adults to date minors there so its actually not a justification)
both sides were NOT cooking
tomoe is a fictional race and is presented to be a late teen, i imagine him being 18-21, but he also presents himself as a highschooler at her school so id say 18 or 19
his gf i see as 17 which she actually is in the anime and shes 16 in the start of the manga
so no i dont personally see this as a CRAZY age gap bc they are in the same age range, the whol 'hes a 600 year old man-' is just dumb bc hes not a old man like he has the mind and body of a teen bruh

anyways the 'its fiction' is not a justification ESPECIALLY for shoujo which is targeted at teen girls because this means its normalizing behaviors/relationships that could be dangerous irl and lead to grooming
this is why i HATE sesrin with a passion bc its essentially a guy dating a girl he took care of when she was 8 as soon as she turns 18

anyways i hope this comes off as common sense but i see NO ONE ever explain it this way

also i dont think time period is a valid excuse either depending on how its handled, i write alot of historical fantasy so i get wanting to be historically accurate but if its handled in a way that glorifies these relationships instead of handling it with meaningful intention then it just feels like a excuse to write abt ones weird fantasies

also a lil unrelated but i feel like publicly shipping kids with adults to 'cope' is creepy, if your gonna do i keep it to yourself because fiction effects reality and its important not to normalize this stuff in media

if u normalize these relationships kids are more likely to think tose relationships are ok and normal, then they can get groomed and have truama, and then if they cope this way it creates a cycle

also i find it so funny that the lil group your a part of was made to exploit kids but yall love to talk abt how its better now, then talk abt how shipping kids with adults isnt weird

ik for monster high age gaps are weird and insane like, draculara is 1600 and her bf, clawd, is 17 but draculara is presented as very much a naive, bubbly high schooler and i'd assume the intention was to make her age almost like a joke, and Frankie Stine is 15 days old but she is obviously intended to be a teen girl who's like, 15 and not a new born baby.

I think occasionally the "agegap" trope could be done in a "ok" way or it's there in a piece of media technically (like monster high, and i'd just say the ghools are all teens and not like, a newborn baby and someone who's technically like, over the age of 65 by a lot T-T)

or it's used to make the viewer uncomfortable almost like a call-out to the trope in general, like in happy sugar life where a character's entire goal in the series is to stop the "relationship" (the dude also want's revenge because the b!tch with his elementary school-aged sister also killed his gf but that's a topic for another day)

but most of the time, it's gross, exploitive slop that's weird and gross.

i'll hear you out if you do like something that has it in there because maybe it's a critic or like, something the people making the show didn't consider how it might come across to the viewer, like with monster high and nothing weird or messed up is going on with the media, but uhh if it's the way it usually is, i'm not gonna be a big fan of you as a person.

@_Izzy_ yeah, this reminds me a lot of draculara and clawd from monster high ngl, I think draculara is from a vampire race that physically and mentally matures extremely slowly or it's just a throw away gag she's 1600 and we as an audience aren't meant to look into it so hard as monster high was intended for children

(idfk what's going on in the new monster high, i'm going off of what I remember from gen 1, back in the 2010's when I was younger)

anyways feel like its plain silly to consider it problematic bc irl we know that shes a teen girl (as i touched on in my original post)
even if shes been around to see earth orbit around the sun 1600 times, shes very much still a child

this is also why i hate the trope of 'i look like a little girl but im actually 500-' bc its always used as a excuse for creepy pdf goon slop:/
obviously when its done to be comedic or maybe even tragic (aging slower then your peers could be devastating for someone whos mentally a child) its cool, it could be used as a good tool for a story, unfortunately its mainly used as a way to justify being a creep
