Prologue

“C’mon pick up the pace you guys! We don’t have nearly enough candy!” exclaimed Jess to the others
“How do we not?! I’m holding like…90 !?#@ing pounds in four pillow cases!” yelled Damian, despite his tough exterior, he was more than ready to call it quits as he huffed and puffed up the hill.
It was a cold, late, post-storm halloween night, the group of Jess, Damian, Nicholas, Phoenix, Ivy, Ava, Dan, and the twins, Tom and Trixie, were still up late by themselves. Their parents stayed in asleep while they each snuck out to go trick or treating. It may have been wet and the middle of the night but the kids wanted their candy no matter what.
“Jess…..huff how do you still have all that energy?!” Trixie asked tired from running around town
“Yeah, like we’ve been out here since 12 somethin! It’s 5 now! How the hell are you not tired?” asked Tom, also curious about Jess's mass amounts of energy.
“I may have eaten ‘most’ of the candy….Sorry not sorry! Ya snooze you-”
“Let’s just get home PLEASE!!! “ groaned Phoenix
“B-but I ate all the candy alrea-” Jess began to mutter before getting cut off by Nicholas-
“ALL?! DUDE WHAT THE F-”
“Ay! AY! Calm the hell down! Fighting isn’t gonna solve the fact that she ate all her candy.”
Damian said, getting between the two to avoid an altercation. The last thing he wanted was to deal with the two fighting AGAIN! The two arguing is already a pain in the #?$ to him.
Nicholas yelled, trying to push by, “LET ME AT HER, DAMMIT!!!” Damian pushed against him while Jess stood clutching her candy as if she cared more about its safety than her own. Nicholas was shaking with fury, swinging his arms every which way before finally relenting and collapsing against Damian in begrudging defeat.
Nicholas let out an annoyed grumble as Damian, who was already struggling with the pounds of candy in his hands, struggled to hold Nicholas up.
“Dude you’re gonna break my #?!@ing back! Get off!” Damian exclaimed angrily, gasping for air.
Jess took a few steps back, shaken by Nicholas’s sudden outburst even though it was normal for him to lash out over trivial things.
“Geez…You need to learn how to calm the #?!@ down, Nick” Jess said as she continued to take steps away, trying to distance herself as far away from Nicholas as possible without getting too far from the group.
“C’mon Jess, don’t provoke him. He’s just gonna wanna hit you more…” Ivy said, speaking up after being silent almost the whole trip.
“Damn right I do.” Nicholas grumbled into Damian, still aggravated but not enough to lunge at Jess like a cat anymore. He pushed himself up and Damian took a big breath, desperate for air.
The group looked around the damp, deserted streets. It was so silent you could hear a pin drop. Nothing seemed out of the ordinary; the crickets chirped, and leaves rustled in the background. But the streetlights buzzed erratically, their flickering rhythm unsettling. Then, the wind blew—hard enough to lift the pillowcases of candy, sending them tumbling to the ground under the weight.
“$#!?” yelled Phoenix in shock and slight pain from the road scraping across their skin.
The group struggled to get up, it was odd. The bags weighed tons but they were carrying it just fine before. Have their limbs given up on them early or something else entir-

Honk!

Their heads turned, confused, hearing the nearby car as headlights suddenly glared into their souls. The lights seemed so bright with how dark it was and how little light the group's eyes had taken from being out so late for so long.
A man suddenly appeared in front of them, it was almost like he came out of nowhere due to the light making it near impossible for the group to see even themselves.

That’s the whole prologue but I’m still tweaking things!
Feedback is greatly appreciated! Whether it’s the dialogue, pacing, or even tiny word choices! Go wild (cuss at me if you gotta—I’m built for brutality!)
