should political conversations be allowed on dns?

so i recently made a post asking yall abt your opinions on a new executive order in congress and it was immediately locked bc political conversation is prohibited ig

i feel like conventions about current events and the real world are the most engaging and most important and can even be fun when handled respectfully
i feel like the discouraging of talking about 'politics' is just bad for democracy in general but also shows a lack of faith in people, people can talk about their opinions without arguing, and this should be a safe space for people to voice their opinions as long as theyre voiced respectfully.

(besides, what IS considered political anyway? who gets to decide what topics are too political and which ones are not? )

anyway i am NOT trying to challenge the rule or get it changed, i just want to know what yall think, is discussing the current events in congress just gonna cause unnecessary drama or do yall think it could be cool to have a space to talk and learn abt these kinda things?

Maybe but only if people could do so respectfully which is apparently very hard for some people to do when it comes to politics. Nobody is going to agree 100% and you aren’t going to change their opinion no matter how hard you try so what’s the point? It’s unnecessary arguing if you ask me. That’s why @Yougot1960ed 's news posts are great imo because he delivers them in a rather unbiased and universal way.

Yeah, freedom of speech. But if people really are gonna be that offended then I'd say that admins should make a hidden topic which could only be accessible via a private group and if people try to argue then they just get kicked from said group- simples

No, they're not allowed. Political Discussion often brings a lot of topics that are not suitable for our environment, which is why it is not allowed. As long as it is in DMs and it doesn't start any conflicts, I'm fine with it.

The issue with politics is ultimately the fact that for most of us, views seem to be defined by party, Republican, Democrat, "Left", "Right", etc. And usually when those views differ it can pick fights, I guarantee you if a user on here made a post on how they loved what Trump has been doing recently and it wasn't ironic they'd receive backlash. Politics is one of the ONLY topics that I don't trust on DNS without breaking up the community. I feel if I allowed public debate relating to political topics, fights would happen and it'd go right back to how it is currently.

yeah I mean like, there's tons of things on here that people already disagree with, ex. furries, religion, gender... I don't really see the difference

@Kam thats kinda how i see it, people disagree on here all the time anyway so if theyre gonna debate it might as well be about things that are actually relevant lol

i feel like the stigma around political discussion is on purpose and is made to keep people from challenging the government or society or thinking about real issues (yall i know it sounds a lil crazy but hear me out TvT)

i feel like banning political discussion because of the fear of people arguing disrespectfully just shows a blatant lack of faith in humanity, besides,people will never learn to have these meaningful conversations in a respectful way is they arent given a chance.

its a shame though, because being able to express an opinion respectfully should be a skill everyone has, as well with disagreeing respectfully, but since a few on here can't we wont be able to have these kinds of discussions:P

when i think of politics i dont rlly think of arguing tho i think of learning abt current events and hearings peoples points of views on the pros and cons of certain things and trying to understand the world we live in and coming up with my own view on the matter, the stigma created around just talking abt 'politics' is actually so annoying TvT

With the amount of polarisation today and the fact that stating any opinion gets you flamed, I would say keep politics off this website. Having a mature and civilised political debate, even with an adult is almost impossible, let alone on here where the primary age range is 13-17.

@Idyll im probably wrong but i like to believe that the ppl who 'flame' folks for their opinions are just a very vocal minority and that most people dont care that much and are capable of having these conversations, they just choose not to because of that vocal minority
