ideas on what to add for ''younger users'' if age verification affects us (*not happy about it too*)

idk how we'd handle age verification itself, but maybe we'd have it so you can only get DMs from people you follow (except for mods) if you are 13-15 years old might be a good thing to add, I obviously hate it but where I live, most social media is either outright 16+ (unless I didnt scroll up far enough, as of 2026, to use new grounds in GA you'd need to have been born in 2010, I was an 09 baby and my birthday is next month so I surpass the minimum age, but new grounds isn't locked behind age verification with face scan or ID) or it has a ''safer experiance'' for teens 13-15 like discord, where you will have restrictions put on your account untill you verify your age. I am not really sure if giving discord your ID changes your Experiace any if you're 16-17 years of age at least where I'm at, but ik my sibling (15) got banned from facebook for failing to provide an ID. I understand we are a forum site but we seem to be lumped in with everything else from what I have seen. what are your ideas as a community on what to do if/when we're forced to do age verification?

if we were forced to do what most sites are doing now, I would rather our site having some restricted features than it becoming 16+ but that's just me. if it came down to that, I think it really would be better to do restricted features bc then younger teens could still use our site

@Aries that's actually pretty interesting, I'm wondering if age verification might be worse where I am at rather than the UK, I am honestly afraid i'll have to give discord my ID :sob: bc literally everything here is being put behind verification in some US states, I cant access some forums without a pic of my ID or like, a debt card

regarding id verification, particularly for discord, there used to be a bypass to automatically verify your account without providing an id. discord's id verification platform had some vulnerabilities so really you just had to craft a special url, click it, boom id verified. i dont know if its been patched tho its been a few months since the exploit research was published (and to comply with rules - i am not encouraging or enabling bypassing rules or laws, just sharing what ive learned)

@maple the ID verification is kinda dumb... it's EXTREAMLY easy to bypass by kids using their parents IDs and there's the issue of using AI to make one for you. I do not condone the use of faking IDs, it's just that it not only is easy to bypass it's also a security risk. this is also an issue both political parties agree on and its suspect that manny companies can easily profit from this sort of thing. and I hate it when someone says ''think of the kids finding bad content online, you MUST hate children if you don't agree on this. literally both left and right winnger's agree what's wrong with you?" its like they forget data breaches happen and that if I were a 9 year old I could just steal my parents ID or older siblings to watch the latest helluva boss episode. ONCE AGAIN, THIS IS BAD, DO NOT LIE ABOUT YOUR AGE OR USE A FAKE ID OR STEAL ONE. (* also wanna reiterate that I am currently 16, turning 17 next month and I am of age to use browse DNS and I am NOT a 9 year old child*)

@Aries what sites are locked in your Regen of the UK? I think GA USA might just have more restrictions, forum sites, some like, email providers, videogames (like roblox, I never have played it, but my siblings do) some SMS messaging sites and a lot of apps that are video and photo editors ask for it too I belive
