Yes — GameMaker is capable of handling a long, 32‑bit RPG, but you’ll need to build most RPG systems yourself and be prepared for extra work compared to dedicated RPG engines.

@foxzy i remember a while ago unity had some issues with paying the game devs and unity was VERY greedy with the money they made compared to the devs. i think unity even sued some-

inevitably it ended up with some game devs deleting their games and im not sure the status now of their terms

uhhh.. epicness, shouout to evil larry

@xenth yeah that situation was pretty bad, I was learning unity at that time and instantly stopped as soon as I heard about all of that mess.

Unity tried to implement a pay-per-install fee, which wasn't even well-defined and didn't even talk that much about how it would actually work. Basically, everytime someone would install your game they would want you to pay them a undefined fee. When they announced they were about to do this, it destroyed the reputation of the company forever. It's funny because it would've destroyed those f2p mobile games, which was likely what was making unity the most money at that time.

NOTE: they don't actually pay any developers (unless they made/published some games themselves, or if the dev uses their ad program), the developers use the engine to make money and pay unity a share of their revenue from the game. I don't remember them suing anybody over it since it never actually went into effect, but they might've idk.

I also don't think any games were deleted, since the devs would lose a lot of progress. A good amount of studios stopped using unity for any future games, but after the fee was dropped, a good amount stayed because they already developed skills and a whole workflow with the engine.

Unity is still usable without major like moral issues, but it's still very risky considering the same board full of biblical-level greedy mfs are still there (i think the ceo got fired but that's just for public image atp). Plus, I think I heard the quality of the engine has been going down.

It was pretty bad of a personal experience while I was learning it tbh, it was hard-carried by documentation, tutorials and the community who have mostly now moved to godot.

@UnpaidIntern said it better than i did, turns out i remembered wrong- it was game devs attempting to sue unity and the fee was implimented. it hurt alot of f2p devs and a few popular games on unity either got deleted due to them not supporting the change or just moved to another engine and the files lurked around.

@UnpaidIntern i think it was like "pay per install" and unity got like a cut of whatever the game devs made from someone installing the game that was an undefined ammount

If they implemented it they would've 100% been sued to the point of bankruptcy lol. It was so dumb-

@foxzy every engine is different and will click with different people, if you like the engine then totally keep working with it. Although if you very conveniently like another engine I would consider switching over when you start a new project to just avoid the unity execs
