why do people steal art?

[Yanderemenhera]

the act of screenshotting and reuploading art or tracing it and reposting it or generally tricking the person who drew the art in some way to obtain it is theft. people do usually do this for clout online because they themselves cannot draw instead of just posting something they are good at, but my question is why? in the big 2026 people can easily call your bluff and you're cooked. not just that, but stealing someone's art and defacing it by tracing it or shittly editing it is one of the most disrespectful things you can do, also if you were able to make money from it, like stealing something someone posted online and putting it on shirts is also fucked up.

now, for me, I don't really mind other people using my art as long as they credit me and don't claim it's there's, like if they wanted to use it in a video essay as an example photo of idk, anime art or something? but if you stole my art and you were telling people it was yours, well i'd likely draw you as a helluva boss oc in thigh highs since you clearly want to go to hell when you die^^^

idk, you can use this thread to discuss art theft, I think talking about it in a thread would be an interesting conversation
