trans in Michigan are in big trouble

@NightmareWolfie said in trans in Michigan are in big trouble:
@Yanderemenhera We may have to ban Michigan users- I doubt VG wants to take a 125k fine
unless he's in Michigan he should be fine, but the people living in Michigan? no so much...
@Yanderemenhera Yeah I realized that, but regardless we probably don't want people getting in trouble with the law-

in Michigan, they want to passed a bill to ban adult content, but included depictions of trans people, this is refuring to content online. "punishable by imprisonment for not more than 20 years or a fine of not more than $100,000.00 or both" -that is a derect quote btw.
if a site has more than 100 pieces of prohibited material you're looking at 25 years in jail or a fine of $125,000.00or both. this is just fucking sad. whats next? i feel like this is a precursor to something similar that happened to jews back in the 30s... also, because this site has transgender content, will we have to ban people in that state? i'm not saying i think we should, but due to the bill we might have too. i am deaply sorry for everyone there who them or there kin that will be affected by this. i do apologize if this is sensitive subject matter but if we get to talk about charlie kurk i think deleting/banning/locking this would be hypocritical.@Yanderemenhera source? and I highly doubt it'll get passed bills are overall not only Michigan votes a lot of people do

gimme a minute, i thought this was big news :p i did have a link up, but i'll send more sources
-
house bill № 4938
-
if you wanna read it, you can, but i'd recommend waiting until i send pics of the trans part (as it has a part about adult content) and the trans part is the only part relivent to this
-
this is something the @administrators should look into and decide what they want to do, this would be a legal issue if it gets passed, but honestly, i think people will be mad about adult content going bye-bye more than anything else and that might be what stops this from being approved

Here's the full text of the proposed law: https://legislature.mi.gov/documents/2025-2026/billintroduced/House/htm/2025-HIB-4938.htm
And here's an article going over it: https://reason.com/2025/09/22/michigan-anti-porn-bill-would-criminalize-asmr-written-erotica-and-even-nonsexual-depictions-of-trans-people/
As far as this site is concerned, we will follow all applicable laws for the states that our users reside in. Likely, if my understanding is correct, that would look like preventing Michigan users from accessing the website in order to comply with the bill if it passes.

@VGMoose its sad, but i do definitely understand why. i really hope the bill doesn't get passed
-
-ban pornography
-classify the existence of trans people as such
-justify putting people in prison for existing as who they are -
yeah
-
its fucked up
