What is a fairy-tale ''Bad Guy'' who isn't actually that bad if you think about it?
-
For me, my example would be Rumplestilitskin, reason being, he more or less was just asking for a surogot mother. Obviously, this was a fictitious story not taking place in in the modern day, but, he was up front with the fact he'd help her out in exchange for her ''first born child'' and the argument could be made he was taking advantage of her vulnerable situation. But what if he just wanted to start a family right? But he couldn't do that due to a curse and so he was like, "Scratch my back and I'll scratch yours!'' and that doesn't seem too far fetched depending on the retelling/verson of the story you read.

like id be angry af too if i was cursed bc someone was jealous of me or bc i was literally assaulted

@saphirecrown1 i feel like as long as the kids he lured were happy hes not that bad, the villagers were the ones who cheated him first anyway
considering the time period that story was made, those kids were probably better off with the flute guy

@_Izzy_ yeah, i just didn't know if he was considered a "bad guy" per se

@_Izzy_ i had things done to me in a BSA uniform, i feel like the argument of someone asking for it or they deserved it is dumb AF, they dont care 'bout what you are wearing or how you look. the difference in the example i brought up with rumplestilitskin, depending on the story, she knew damn well what she was signing up for, (i heard one version where her dad signed her up for it, so obviously this doesn't apply) so i feel like a supernatural being taking your jewelry and your ''first born'' is on you in that situation

@_Izzy_ yeah, i agree

ok, so shrek was based off of a real childdrens book right? i heard someone say once loard farquad wasnt a bad guy, and shrek is the guy who fucked everything up. (imo, i feel like the genocide of the fairy-tale creatures as a race/species/group of entity kinda ruins this point but i honestly wanna know if anyone here believes wether or not farquad is actually a decent guy)

@Yanderemenhera i feel like lord farquad could be seen as a product of his position and time at most, but i can never imagine him being the real victim

pls explain it to me again@_Izzy_ i mean, you mentioned the idea of someone ''deserving it'' or ''asking for it'' i dont think thats the case, i think it doesn't matter if her outfit or deminor told the guy it was ok, you gotta actually ask. ik with rumplestilitskin, in most versions of the story i have heared, she got herself in that situation, so i believe that kinda makes my guy asking for a child in exchange for his assistance kinda on her if she put herself in that situation and he just so happened to help her out
-
though, i will say, greek mythos is typically beyond fucked up, and you could argue if they are gods doing ts it does not matter, but i feel like it still doesn't make it ''ok'' so to speak, arachnia was better than the gods at something, so they threw a hissy-fit and turned her into a spider. i'd argue the higher being had a very human fragile ego and she, despite being a god, is a bitch for doing that.

the doctor guy from human centipede
(i cant spell his,name) -
Does the student from that one Goethe story count as a bad guy? I don't know what it's called in English. The one that Disney once made. All he was doing was try something out with the things he learned really.
