The only thing holding them back are laws, otherwise they'd just be as evil as possible for the money they get from exploiting people. There are multiple things people can do to combat this and make their lives better, but they just dont for some reason personal to them.

It's also just not that bad enough yet to effect most people's lives in ways they can actually directly perceive. Most people just ignore this until it gets worse and not notice anything beforehand. It's not all doom and gloom, there's alot of things to be hopeful about if people get off their [censored] [censored], help people and stop being in character (i was referencing the backrooms movie, since it feels relevant thematically, which ended up making the last sentence really confusing lmao).

The backrooms movie is a really good representation of how most people feel right now tbh. Like the feeling of being stuck in a terrible place with seemingly no way out, despite the fact that they can usually do something about it themselves instead of relying on others to help it get better
