Why are ppl STILL using generative AI

First of all I am not trying to start arguments, I'm only trying to inform so this will probably be a really long rant and I apologize if there is any incorrect info but I feel like people are just brushing it off... But it really IS that deep..
(This includes stuff such as chat got, chai, character ai, gemini and more)
In case you don't wanna read all that my points are:
Uses our fresh water to cool it's data centers
Releases carbon emissions (this causes global warming)
Is mostly trained by stolen works
Even if you use as a therapist, the AI is naturally meant to agree with the user and find ways as to why they are "right" (obviously, doesn't have any actual morals)
Can be used to generate just about anything including nsfw content with unconsenting people. (This has been done, and people are doing this with actual children)First off, WHY is generative AI bad?? To start off, it is causing a lot of issues ENVIRONMENTALLY. While one response from ai doesn't equal a gallon of water lost, it still uses it. Because data centers are used to train generative ai such as Chat GPT and other popular artificial intelligence. And data centers heat up, which requires water to cool down. But it's not just using any water, it's using OUR freshwater. That 3 percent that is on our earth is being used to cool down data centers!
Second reason is that the amount of electricity AI uses. Ai takes about 2.9 watt-hours of electricity just to generate a response, while doing a single Google search is JUST 0.3 watt-hours. Because of the amount of energy generative AI uses (this doesn't just apply to AI but it requires a lot of electricity) it is releasing tons of carbon emissions. In case you dont know why this is bad, this is one of the many factors of GLOBAL WARMING. Yes, there are many other things that cause it but by stopping the use of generative AI we have one less factor to worry about.
Now onto morally WHY generative AI is bad, which I hope is obvious... Is that it is mostly trained by STOLEN works. This is mostly seen with art done by people, but this can include forms of writing. Ai is replacing people's jobs because it is more "efficient" and is typically free. But people who have spent their lives dedicating to something they enjoy, are not able to due to the fact it's so easy for them to be replaced by ai.
And I understand how some people is works as an alternative for a therapist if you for any reason can't have one... But AI is not programmed to actually give you advice, it is program to just naturally AGREE with the user. No matter what problem it will try to find reasons to as why your "right". This is most likely so that way it can make the user more engaged, because why would you wanna spend time with something that always disagrees with you?
This is not only it, but with AI you can generate just a about ANYTHING. And I don't wanna get too nsfw, but this is becoming a huge Internet safety problem because people can make just about anything your face for THEIR pleasure. And this HAS happened to many unconsenting people. Including CHILDREN.
There are many more problems as too why generative AI is bad, but this is about all I will cover for now! Against sorry for this being so long but I think it's really important people know about this. Sorry if I got anything incorrect!

As someone who knows alot about ai and just tech in general for the water issue you stated thats not a problem 90% of the water used to cool is recycled and the power issue in reality with make things like electric cars more available as energy producers invest in better grid infrastructure and delivery

As someone who knows alot about ai and just tech in general for the water issue you stated thats not a problem 90% of the water used to cool is recycled and the power issue in reality with make things like electric cars more available as energy producers invest in better grid infrastructure and delivery
@phantemxtx ohh okay I see!! If you do know, what's the process of the recycling?? Is it like going back to places that it was taken from or is just naturally going to places where it would be due to the water cycle (if that makes sense). And it's good it's 90% of it IS recycled somehow, but what happens to that ten percent?? Because in the end it's still ten percent we are losing, and that 10 percent will add up to a lot of water lost in the end

Stay tuned!" my only real rebuttals is that the amount of water used in ai datacenters are typically extremely low and usually incurs evaporatively. for example, most ai datacenters use cooling towers similar to what youd see in a nuclear plant, although on a much smaller scale. what happens (in most datacenters) is the water gets sprayed over an array of coils or any good heat conducive material as large fans blow on it, and as the water evaporates it absorbs heat from the system, cools the air around it, and lowers the temperature of the water that goes back into the servers. also, in new development more ai companies are leaning into closed loop pipe cooling, which would actually lead to near 0 water loss as it'd be constantly recirculated. now, no loop is fully airtight (figuratively) and the water will eventually evaporate into the atmosphere, but the use of ai doesnt inherently "consume" water to any degree, and if we're talking about environmental impact the multi trillion dollar infrastructure of the internet itself would be far more harmful than AI. now yes, as you said the amount of electricity AI consumes is fairly marginal but at the same time it doesn't take away from you directly. your local grid controller isn't going to under any circumstances give power to an AI datacenter that it can't supply. more power plants will pop up as needed to feed any given industry, and that isnt exclusive to AI, and although fossil fuels are incredibly toxic to the planet in general it's a global problem rather than just 1 industry. as far as stolen works, its publicly availiable information on the internet that can be accessed to anyone and there isnt an extreme difference in a human or a robot plagarizing, although ill admit AI can do it on a much larger scale and its more of an ethical debate than techicnal. overall i use ai almost every day, but at the same time i use it sparingly and sometimes just for fun if i'm bored because none of my actual friends would bother talking to me about nuclear engineering; but i definitely understand the perspective of someone who sees another person fully leaning on AI for basic day to day tasks, which i do not support. overall i think that AI itself isnt harmful but the companies running the AI datacenters and especially the technology manufacturers are prioritizing a short-term paycheck over consumer value which is pretty disgraceful (for example micron and nvidia) and needs to be addressed, and yet it still isnt directly the AI's fault. human greed is at the end of any business and there are a plethora of ways ai can be interpreted as harmful but it all leads back to a human executive board and a desire for profit

OKAY yeah because I wasn't actually sure what the exact process they used water when I tried searching it up, all I knew was it did use water somehow. And Its more comforting to hear that the water isn't actually used way more than what I have seen. The part that worries me is how yes most of the art the AI is fed is public domain, but because people are using it to "train" the bot so it could do similar things without the talent or time it takes. Which obviously makes it so people who do these things as jobs aren't able to actually do what they enjoy because AI is doing it for them!
