i've personally seen straight ally's freak out out over terms like LGBTQ, and LGBTQIA+, i've also seen people complain about the rainbow and progress flag not being inclusive enough and people (usually people who are in reality far too young to be using the internet) go around calling people homophobes/transphobies over them not knowing what a lybra-gender or xeno-gender is or some random neeche thing from Tumblr.
honestly, I think saying the LGBT or LGBTQ is ok. and if you're a straight ally freaking out over specific titles/labels itsok.
I am apart of said community and honestly, I think just a general term to represent all of us is fine, I have one small rainbow flag in my room lol, its not some oddly specific ace flag with the bi flag or whatever. it's easier than listing every identy out there, and no hate to somebody who identifys as something from a site like Tumblr either obviously, but imo, you're free to correct me on this to^^ but I think its ok to have terms/symbols to represent everybody, adding letters to LGBT indefenetly isn't the answer. hell, if we as a collective decided to be called gubbbs or something like that wouldn't matter imo. I get not wanting to be generalized, but its concerning to me when somebody is acting like they are walking on eggshells trying to say everything they can think of. I feel represented by the rainbow flag, I get asking everybody to feel the same is stupid, but God... I get feeling hostile over stuff like this as its been historically margenalized too can we just agree on something? this post was a yap fest ik, and its not directed tords anyone here, i've mostlly seen people getting aggressive over labels and straight ally's freaking out over how to correctly adress us on YouTube

So are you saying that it’s ok that some of us straight people don’t understand the whole gender thing and the correct terms of address to use or whatever?

@ilovecats2018 yes, I also frankly think some people go way to far with ''correcting'' people if they don't know every single flavor of the rainbow when the person is genuinely just confused and doesn't know and is trying to be openminded
-
like if somebody saw "bi'' and did not know what it was and they ask if it's like being gay and then the person reply saying something like
"you bigoted homophobes don't understand anything do you!?!'' or they say just LGBT community and didn't include someone's letter and then the person replays about how they're under represented and you are a bad person for not including them
-
its like they're tryna be a straw man istg. but most of the people say ts are usually 11 to 14 years old and don't get how this isn't very smart, they turn away people who'd support them due to there hostile attitude and general immaturity
-
Absolutely agree. I’ve seen how people do that so much to the point that now getting mad about not using the right address is kinda becoming the whole community’s stereotype I think. It's really bad where I live but I know not everyone is like that. Some people are just so aggressive about it and it kinda gives everyone else a bad image too -.-

i agree, im pan but i just like say im gay bc i feel like the labels genuinely arent that serious at all and its not a big deal, be what you like, just dont make it other ppls business, and other ppl shouldnt care abt your business, if a group of ppl wants more representation, they can go make thier own community n stuff, not wine to ppl who probably dont care TvT

I think this is a really good point, I am not super big on labels either. I'm fine just saying I'm ace or just leaving my romantic life ambyguase. I am also personaly afraid of coming off as uh, well, annoying tbh. at the end of the day though, labels aren't hurting anyone its hate, excluesoin, gatekeeping, and hostility. and tbf, YouTube is an echo chamber and the loudest, most extreme voices get the most attention, so more reasonable and nuanced opinions get drowned out instantly.

you understand literally my entire life philosophy, you can be expressive about your differences, but you dont ned to flaunt them

@saphirecrown1 its not even flaunting for me, its making your identity someone elses problem
like getting mad if someone misgenders you by accident, it sucks but ppl dont have to mae accommodations for you and making it a big deal wont make ppl respect younow if someone does it on purpose its disrespectful and they can get straight slapped

wow, I'm genuinuly surprised this has been so universally well received. I thought people were just gonna yell at eachother until mods saw this topic and locked it.

@Yanderemenhera its kinda a normal take, the lgbs are a minority so right off the bat most ppl dont care abt the details of how you should refer to them, but nagging ppl abt the flag not including them is obviously dumb, only vocal minorities think its wrong
the Internet isnt irl, most ppl genuinely dgaf abt what gay ppl are doing TvT

-
i dont think most people are that bothered
tbh i think it should be shortened to lgbt as most less common identities usally fit under those umbrellas anyway (e.g. pansexual being a part of the bi umbrella, and nonbinary being under the trans umbrella) -

@Yanderemenhera I'm guessing that lybra-gender and xeno-gender are under the nonbinary umbrella? I'm nonbinary myself, as it says in my username, but I don't know the entire spectrum. I usually just use the umbrella term rather than being specific with agender, as most people understand better with just the umbrella term.

@Nonbinary_wolf yeah, idk what ybra-gener even is myself tbh, I saw it mention in a discord server once, but xenogender is like bun/bunself
