I dont see why we would pay a forum mod.. but no.. this is intended to be a free service and we only will likely get money from donations, users buying items etc. Although, the admins don't generally like getting money as they wish to do this to support others, not generate revenue... however, all donations are appreciated!

I think people got confused, I didn't say staff, I said admins. I know mods & forum services don't get paid since i've been in both departments before. I thought admins might get money from how many views the site gets, etc. I think they'd deserve it for all the hard work they put in. Maybe they can get ad revenue in the future?

I wasn't necessarily responding to just you, my response was based on what they said and your questions as well. No, we do not receive money from page views, as we do not run ads.

i'll be blut and piss people off, no and i don't see why it'd be necessary, its basically volunteer work. you get to help out you community. it isn't like, a real job in that sense, not that administration isn't important, we're a small forum and that's not even remotely feasible

It's certainly feasible! We get over 100k forum views a month. Therefore, if we found a way to count Switch Users as valid ad traffic, we'd be rich by the end of March.

We're working on monetization for the forum still! We've tried ads in the past, but Google marks Switch traffic as invalid (likely due to a lack of cookies + same screen size / User agents). In other words, Switch users look like bot traffic to Google.

Shirts, other merch, or even other advertisers are still an option, and are something that we're actively looking into still. Another pathway are mobile apps for chat / a standalone "news" site frontend (which may be easier to have ads run on). Until then, we are just running it out of pocket / as an open source project.

what would happen if there were advertisements, but someone was assigned to constantly look at ads or just have their computer open to ads? would that be constant revenue?
