a preferred name is quite common, it's a name that's not like, your legal/birth name that you use, I know it can be quite confusing but I will write a few different examples so it makes more sense:

1.

so let's say there's someone named Joshua, they don't like how formal that is and it feels weird when they are called that and it's something they find uncomfortable. so they would like to be called josh instead, Joshua is their legal name, it's what's on their birth certificate but they would ask you to just call them josh and you do because you wanna be respectful and not make them uncomfortable and they apretate you use their preferred name.

2.

samatha has now asked his mom to call him Sam after coming out as a trans man and explaining that he's not her daughter, but her son. and that name feels better than his old name and it's kinda like the name he used to have because he doesn't wanna fully give up the old name but he feels like it's more "him" than his old name. his mom doesn't understand why at first, it's so simmaler to the name she originally gave him but she does use the name he requested, even if it's not the same one that's on his driver's license that's his name and after a bit of talking she gets it and supports her son thought the process of transition.

3.

a couple get married but things sour between them, Amanda has the legal last name of brown and she can't change it right now and the devorce is still finalizing but she asked you to please call her Ms. Rodriguez when you get into class and she explains she is devorcing and she doesn't want to be associated with her ex husband. you and your classmates agree and you call her the name you asked.

I listed a few exaples of preferred names and I hope that can help explain why someone might want to be called something other than what their birth certificate says, slip-ups happen, and if it's not intentional and you call someone something else than what they asked they'll usually forgive you, but intentionally doing things like always using their dead-name can be very hurtful and it's generally a pretty rude thing to do. imagine if let's say someone called you the wrong name, maybe they accedentally said "John" when your name is actually Amy but they will not stop calling you John. your name is a very personal thing, it's like the number one thing to remember about yourself. this post isn't meant to shame anyone that didn't know what a preferred name was, if you didn't know and you do now that's great^^ I also think this post could be a good thing to show like, a parent or something to help explain the concept of it, also there's a lot of different reasons someone might want to use a different name I didn't mention here and that's because there's well, a lot of reasons why, i've just picked the most common one's i've seen irl.

one more thing, if someone replies to this post explaining they didn't know what a preferred name was until this and they aren't being rude, don't be rude to them. should be obvious but sometimes people will shame others online for not knowing things like this or say they are [insert type of bigotry] when they honestly have no beef and just didn't know. please keep the replies respectful^^^ tysm

this is an outfit redesign of the cursed utau named meaty-chan, I found so many different versions of them so I kinda took elements to multible. also, their skin is darker, my camera butchared the color and they are weirdly pale now, also I think meaty-chan is non-binary? so I think they/them pronouns are correct (I know not every emby uses they/them but i'm tryna be as respectful as possible)

@w1ckedsticky1983 I was struggling to find a decent reference image, half of it was uh... content I wasn't expecting to see on safe search and there's a lot of inconsistencesy in different artist's designs, the sleeves in particular, some had a bunch of random, like uneven colored stripes some had a few chunky brown one's lol an attempt was made and I tried to give it a thick black boarder to make the image pop out more.

am I the only one seeing things like this or no? like, kids make videos using big words to call people bigoted and telling people they are undeserving of life for something like a dude owning an anime figure or them losing their shit over something they don't have full context with? like they might see something from happy sugar life and rush to YouTube shorts to call everyone a creep and something like a mysogenist without even doing a Google search or is it just me?

the quotes I have up there were heavily inspired by real videos and comments and i'd say I was being slightly hyperbolic for comedic effect but some of them really do get to the point where they say you don't deserve oxygen and things like that

I prefer to use gender neutrual terms a lot, like, ik that sounds woke as hell to some people, but I like refuring to groups as people, and I use plural "they/them/theirs" a lot. sometime I just refer to a group by their species, aka say thing something like "what the ∱uck are you humans doing?!?" I find it annoying when people forget that words like people or they aren't inhearantly nonbinary and can be used to describe a collective of people. I think it's mostly republicans who get mad or assume i'm calling everyone nonbinary, they are the same people who forget that pronouns are an essential part of the English language and they say shit like "i'm a real man. I don't need them woke αss he/him/his pronouns" it's like, istg people who say that deadass don't understand you can be cis and straight and use pronouns, they are for everyone and aren't inherently LGBTQ at all, and saying for example "magic the gathering fans, they collect playing cards" is using plural they and sure, I could be mentioning some nonbinary people when I say that, but i'm talking about women too for example. no hate to nonbinary people ofc, this gripe isn't their fault, it's literally just people who are obsessed with genering literally everything and they don't remember how the English languge works =-= and so I say to those HUMANS, (I use humans in particular when i'm upset) learn how the English language works, and if you still don't wanna be referred to as any pronouns, ask people to just use your name and exclude you from being mentioned in a group context.

bro, wtf? how the hell did you get through school? everyone who says that genuinely does not comprehend what a pronoun is. its not just he him she her they them. i have for example heard ''chat'' described as a gender neutral pronoun like they for example. i bet you could make a long list of pronouns (not like, ones for gender specificly) and imagine going without them, sure, i can call you smith but it can become awkward in conversation, and frankly i think those idiots would take it as me being rude. how dumb has the world gotten? i understand that they are saying that bc they are transphobic, yes, but goddamn can you at least understand the English language before you make an angry post somewhere?
