A few days ago, my family and I were sitting together on the couch. My mom had something on the TV. It was a video of a podcaster telling some scary story about an english man's demonic possession or something. When he was telling the story, he mentioned that the prayer group of the church (that was attempting to get the "possessed" man help) was lead by a woman. Both my parents respond negatively, but my mom even more so.

She makes an ew sound, then says, "That's unsavory and wrong. What's she doing there? Scriptures says that women should be meek and that men should lead in church. I mean, I'm not saying women can't do godly, good things and all, but you've got those two boxes already checked against you in life."

The internalized misogyny is fcking insane. I'm so tired of it.

Basically, what she's saying is:

You're a woman. So, no.
Women aren't fit to lead. So, no.
Men are supposed to be over women. So, no.
Women aren't supposed to have a backbone or stand out at all. So, no.

No, you'll never be superior to a man. No, you're too emotional, seductive, and irrational to hold any positions over authority over anyone except your children. No, you cannot be independent so the superior gender must rule over you. No, you can't put yourself out there or wear something pretty or revealing or you'll draw too much attention to yourself. And, no you're not allowed to say shit about it and you should just sit in your corner and eat it and be obedient or else you'll "cause unnecessary strife or problems."

All because god said so.

To clarify, this is not meant as an attack against anyone's faith or religion. I know that not all Christians are like this. In fact, the majority probably isn't. My parents do not and will not ever represent a religious group as a whole to me. They are their own individuals.
