When I struggled with it I used rubber bands. I put them on my wrist, pulled them, and released. It hurts u without leaving permanent marks, tho it does leave raised red lines where the band hit for a few hours afterward.

I struggle too, so what I do is A) cut up paper or B) press an ice cube onto my wrists/run my hands through cold water

The situation you're in is probably one of the shittiest places to be. Now I don't know exactly how you feel, but from my own experience .. no matter how much you WANT to stop, WANT to be productive, WANT to get up, when it's actually time to, it feels impossible ..

SH is a stubbornly fucked up thing that's hard to get out of, but modivation to stop is the most important thing, and it looks like you got one. Now if you can't stop immediately, that's ok. But at the least you need to ease out of it. Less and less, till it's barely pain at all. Ice, rubber bandd, pinching, and nail scratching are all good suggestions!!

A method that sometimes works is placing multiple pieces of duck tape on the places where you harm and repeatedly rip off the tape until you're satisfied. It works for the pain if you usually don't cut super, duper deep normally when SHing. It helps to take at least a few(5-10) deep breaths before ripping off each piece of tape as well. Not sure what to do if you feel like you need to see blood though,,, (not saying you do, but often times people don't feel like the SH is 'good' enough till they bleed).

Rubber bands don't work well for me because it doesn't hurt enough, but with the duck tape, it can help you release the adrenaline and calm down when you're in the moment.

@french_fry_guy nah, it's common lol. The sting doesn't last long enough with the rubber bands, I feel like it's only good if you SH once in a blue moon. It's nothing to be ashamed of, I would just advise to slowly and slowly stop SHing if it's difficult for you to stop immediately. It's just like quitting any other addiction, distract yourself or at least tone it down day by day until you don't feel the need to do it anymore 🐌

I've actually been sober for a few months I believe (I haven't been keeping track) PX

@w1ckedsticky1983 I genuinely feel like people dont take it as seriously as other addictions or see it as one at all. What I tend to do is SH for a week or two, go cold turkey and have something similar to a manic episode, and then relapse. When it's all said and done Im so ashamed of myseld for it.

@french_fry_guy literally. That was me for a while before I quit. It sucked so bad because either I would cut multiple times a day, or just randomly take a break for varied amounts of time before I would have a breakdown or I split and then the cycle would just start all over again. Same for other methods of SH, I did it all tbh

@french_fry_guy dont worry,, ur alright!! I actually lied, the ONE thing I haven't done is drink. Mainly because there's absolutely zero alcohol in my home, but hey, that's good. Anyways, I hope you get better or at least improve. It's a long journey ahead of you, but I know you can do it PX,, same for you, @Kaylazz ♥️

i use a spikey cylinder fidget, if you squeeze it it hurts a bit. its my replacement, it helps. though everyones diffrent :)

Yes!! I LOVE those and I always recommend them. Though it's usually best for after initial recovery, since the ones I've seen/used are quite dull and silicone.

@Cicadasandbats there are some that are 3d-printed aka a hard plastic (which is mine) they keep the spikes non-dull and leave little imprints, its good because it feels like pressure, then leaves small dots. for me, its a very good way to help.
