I mean, I'm not in a relationship with a yumeshipper myself, but I'm a yume and have friends who are in relationships with yumes themselves, and yadda yadda.. I think a common misconception is that a yumeshipper doesn't ACTUALLY believe or think they're dating a character. It's moreso just a label to to represent your deep love and connection for a character and isn't supposed to be used as a substitute for a real, romantic relationship. This is generally how yumeshippers go about things, and as for the small part of the community that actually does believe theyre dating a fictional character are just mentally ill, but it's not as common as you think it is.
If someone is spending a majority of the time on their yumeship and hyperfixating on it, then it becomes an issue. But once again, yumeshipping is sorta like a hobby for fun and shouldn't be taken seriously, and most really don't.
