Which is your favorite form of expression, art, music, or literature?
-
I think for me, it'd definitely be a tie between art and music. Totally biased here because I draw and also play music pieces. Music connects people through their souls and emotions, music pulls on your heartstrings- even if it was a song you don't know the language to. You can get a sense of what music sometimes portrays, and goes kinda hand-in-hand with art as well.

@Idyll I think your statement could be worded better, just because it requires mastery or more skill in order to convey those feelings, doesn't mean it's failing at its role. A good author can convey emotions or invoke feelings onto the reader just as well as an artist or musician, which has been looked into by a few people. The only reason music and art are more widespread is likely because reading, in my opinion, requires more dedication and doesn't cut straight to the point like music or art does. It's able to do all the same things, but reading is a more long-form activity. So to state my opinion on the matter, they can all convey emotions well, but just do it differently. Music is an IMMEDIATE burst of feeling, usually packed into a pretty short amount of time. It gets straight to the listener's head and gets the job done in a short amount of time. Art takes more understanding in order to convey feelings, but it can take one picture, and make a person feel whatever they desire. Whether it be a flurry of colors or a drab black and white image, a good artist can easily convey feeling without needing a big story or any time at all. And authors, are best at getting into your head, by giving attachment to characters or even the writer themselves, a good story can have you at the front edge of your seat and can get your heart pumping just as well as any art piece or song could. Ultimately though, it depends on the person, there's no definitive answer on which one is MOST effective because of that reason, but I wanted to guard literature because I feel people kind of just place it under the two other forms of expression when it shouldn't be like that.

@NightmareWolfie I would say that it's arguably harder for people to portray emotion sometimes in literature, just generally because people interpret things differently and it entirely depends on who you ask when it comes to identifying the figurative language behind a wall of text. While some pieces of literature are easier to interpret, others aren't as much. That, on top of how other people view the same thing. For example, Person A could read a book and come to a different conclusion than Person B about the premise and theming of the literature provided. I agree that it also depends on the quality and mastery of the author- the moment something isn't worded right, the whole theming can easily be torn apart. Although that is your opinion, much as it is Idyll's and mine, we all have our own takes on various things, and Idyll should have a right to express their opinion as such.

I enjoy literature when i'm having a strong feeling, I can express myself in a peaceful manner. I just enjoy art in general if i'm 'in the mood' to actually commit to a drawing or not

@Idyll said in Which is your favorite form of expression, art, music, or literature?:
> I totally concur with Araghie. Literature, while also very important, in my opinion fails to convey emotion as much as art and music can. It is all about text, and text interpretation is quite hard to master, which is precisely why people resort to either art and/or music when they want to express their feelings. Arts advantage is that people can convey their emotion through colour very easily, and also through the style of drawing. Music, like my amie said, connects people through soul and emotion, but also through its harmony and tempo/dynamic. Lyrics, while optional, play a massive role in it, too.what Idyll is saying, if you feel smart, you listen to classical music like Mozart or Beethoven, if you feel mad, you listen to rock
